 Block Request
I have found a block called Daily Horoscopes Block, the block displys a list of 12 birth signs and a coloured icon for each one, if you click on any of the icons say Virgo then you are presented with a horoscope reading for Virgo for that particular day.
Any chance of getting this block added to the list of available blocks for CMS, I had this one installed on my old forum which was using IMPortal, but the coding seems different on this forum and I can't seem to figure out how to get it installed.
The original file is listed has being for use with EZPotal, which is listed in the mods and hacks list of Icy Pheonix, so it may be compatible.
It would be a nice adition to the already good set of blocks available to use.

 Re: Block Request
This is exactly the kind of stuff I don't want to see in Icy Phoenix.

Yeah but if you put too much crap into the portal system it gets difficult to maintain. Look at phpBB2+, it's insane with all the so called features. Making and maintainig your own template and design is almost impossible. I think stuff like the birthday mod, hororscopes, abundance of smileys, lots of BBcode, credit systems, yellow cards etc etc is not necessary MODS. I'd rather install mods like that manualy if I need them than for the basic portal code to have everything included.
I hope Icy Phoenix doesn't make the mistake so many other portals does and focus on unnecessary 'BS' instead of making an easy to use portal that focuses on content management (posting news, configuring blocks etc).
Just my two cents,no disrespect to the topic starter and your 'needs and wants'.

 Re: Block Request
Are you asking someone to port this to work with Icy Phoenix or phpBBXS? Or for it to be put into the next version?
I can help you to get it to work but I think he's right about it not being added. Even though I myself would be interested in using it for my members to have something to do while waiting on a response.
Which version are you using?

 Re: Block Request
Thanks for your reply Frost
My original question was this.
I was trying to add the block myself to Icy Pheonix like I have done many times before with other portals, but when I tried to add this one to icy pheonix I found that the IMPortal or EZPortal mod had been changed that much from the originals, that I could not figure out how to add it to icy, (could not figure out which portal is installed, it looks like IMPortal, but is listed has EZPortal in the mods list).
If people feel so strongly that it should not be added to icy then thats fine by me but could somebody then help me to include it in my own icy forum, because I like the block, always have.
I dont need somebody to do it for me, just a discription of how to put the code into the relevant pages or if somebody knows how to do the code alterations then a list of them would be nice so I can do it myself.
And I am only asking for one block, there are countless others avialable in icy that are not enabled by default and you can choose whether or not you want them on your portal page, I was only asking the same thing, a block adding that can turned on or off at the users own discretion.
If the block is turned off it makes no difference to the overall effect of Icy, and in respect to the birthday mod, its already installed in the current release of Icy Pheonix. Smileys, lots of BBcode, credit systems, yellow cards as far as I am aware are not blocks they are part of the general forum system.

 Re: Block Request
Can you give me the links to the most updated of the mod for both IM Portal and EZPortal
If you are wanting this installed on the newly released Icy Phoenix you might want to wait as it is still in beta stage and as always there may be code changes that will ultimately affect your installation. I can go ahead and install this on a version of the latest stable and beta but like I said, it's subject to change.
If you still want me to do it, I will, and I will give you instructions/notes on how I did it and you can do it yourself.
And like I said above, I also think the mod is interesting no need to be defensive, alot of people have different tastes in mods. If someone wants a stripped down version of phpbb they could always go to www.phpbb.com
Anyways, let me know

 Re: Block Request
Thanks Frost
Nice of you to help me out, if you don't mind I would like to include the block now in the current version of Icy. Even though there may be some code changes when the final comes out, I don't think there will be much change to way the blocks are displayed and orginised in CMS.
The links you requested are as follows;
IMPortal Here
EZPortal Here
And the latest Horoscope block file is included in my original post

 Re: Block Request
I think the best way for integrating these kinds of blocks is using plain HTML... just create a block without block file and copy the html code.
