I think there are two styles of the news block, but I think the news [News] block looks the best. Some like the forum attach [Advanced News] block, so its entirely up to you.

Go to CMS Management. Create a new block on the page you wish to display your forum news. The block file you should use is news block, or forum attach.

If you are using the news [News] block, go to your forum and edit or create a new topic in any forum.

You'll see the Subject, Description of your topic, post topic as, and select news category. Select news for the news category. You should see that particular topic on your front page of your website.

Hope that helped.

Chaotic, I will add only one thing, but if you do not make that you will get no results.

Create a news category at the ACP

ACP >> News Category >> New Category

You can attach a image as symbol for the category from /images/news/*.*
