phpBB 3 MODS And Styles (Not Compatible With phpBB 3.1) - Black Pearl - Prosilver

Hi

I had for couple of years the lovely style BlackPearl based on Subsilver2

I switch From Subsilver2 -> Prosilver
Because with the time there are more and more ''no supporting'' for subsilver2 anymore
Many ''mods'' are only for Prosiver
On many forums i read subsilver2 is begin outdated, and i do not know that, the fact i only see is thats true to find most nice ''mods'' for a subsilver2
On my website i have 'mods'' that is only for prosilver

Anyway is there a way to get BlackPearl based on Prosilver?
Or is there a future idea to make it prosilver based?

its one of the best style i ever seen, but so many tools and stuff i can not install it because its subsilver2 based

best regards

Hi Maclobster, Welcome to IcyPhoenix

First of all, I've moved your question to our phpbb section because that's where it looks like it's supposed to be.

Secondly, eventhough more MOD authors refuse to include SS2 edits this does not mean Subsilver is going to be dropped!
imho.. MODS with missing SS2 edits should not even be validated by phpbb simply because they are incomplete! (that should teach them a lesson )

However >>This Thread<< should give you some idea of what's different... along with breadcrumbs and the menublock.
You do need some insight though to rewrite the edits.

If you want to learn how or need pointers you are free to post questions here, but be prepared to receive an occasional "ask the mod-author" reply every now and then, after all it's their responsabillity and choice to make a complete MODX (or not)

Just keep in mind not every mod will be easy but it's not rocketscience

Try to start comparing parts of code used creating a thread form subsilver and prosilver, I'm sure you'll notice the differences in both structures (ul, th, td etc).

Use Winmerge (it's free!) as a comparing tool between the two codes

If you look at my boards you can see enough mods that are not written for SS2 based styles.... but they do work and look good! (at least I hope so)

Let us know where you need help, advice or just a tip

english short version
nah to much, it was better it was official , i will stay with prosilver its more to do with, but thanks anyway

We only speak english in this forum MacLobster (except in chit chat [Italian])

If you don't want to learn managing some code then it's your choice ofcourse, maybe you could take a look at Frozen Phoenix and try to recolourize or invert it using colourizeit, that one is prosilver based.

However the advantage of black pearl is that it does not inherit files from the default style, making it possible to delete subsilver completely!
