Hope i am posting this in the correct place. feel free to move me to the right area if i'm wrong!

We have been using the black pearl stype for our phpbb3 install for quite some time. However we have had an issue where if we enable the "Q & A" spambot countermeasures on the forum, users are unable to register onto our website, as the question is not displayed.

As this is a rather old template, my question is if we re-generate the style using colourizeit! will this now be corrected?

i did a search however i couldn't find anything with the terms "spambot countermeasures" or "registration spam" e.c.t

Yes you posted in the correct section, thanks for making the effort  

First of all I'm wondering, since you say it's a rather old style, if you have ever updated your phpbb version AND style.
Because with almost any update for phpbb there is a style update released to match it.
So I wonder what version of phpbb and what version of black pearl you are using.

Secondly, a little more searching could have shown you some more results (eventhough I realise you did your best )

Note that phpbb has not validated it yet so they are still offering the older version on their site

I'm afraid i don't know what version of the style we are using, and it has been a very long time since we installed it. i don't think i have actually updated it since, and that explains a few things xD

Thank you for ansqering my question so swiftly and for the reference links, they look very handy.

I will give the update a go soon, as i now know i will be able to impliment the security i previously could not.

I will clear the cache and pray it works XD

You should be able to check the style version in black_pearl/style.cfg

If you've never updated the style while phpbb was updated you can expect errors (not only this bug), FYI any updated phpbb can go hand in hand with style and even language updates (if not default).

Incase you have many modifications I advice you to use winmerge to compare old with new files.

The link above to the newest style will always contain the latest release in post 1.

Hello again! It has been a while.

I have finally got round to upgrading both the forum AND the skin to the below specifications:

forum version (to 3.0.11)
style (1.6.9)

I still get the same issue, users are unable to register on the site when Q&A settings are selected for use. The skin asks for a "confirmation code" with nothing above it.

Try uploading/overwriting the q&a file from the default latest release of the style... you must have missed these edits

You must be right, because i just re-downloaded and installed the original theme from the links you gave me previously, and that works fine.

I have just used the colorizer to generate a new skin and upload it to our forum for use, unfortunatly the same issue appears. This is really strange.

Can you provide a link to the error page please?

alright, alright, i admit it, i just spent 3/4 hours on this because i'm an idiot.

For those of you with the same issue - CLEAR YOUR CACHE!

For those of you - like me - that couldn't find the cache button after you upgraded, clear all files from the "cache" folder in your phpbb install other than the index.php and .htaccess files once you upload your style and set it to active.
